St John the Baptist, Thaxted Church - During the 14th and 15th centuries, Thaxted was one of the wealthiest places in Essex. From Pevsner: "Its present population of about 1,800 makes one forget that it vied in business importance with Saffron Walden and indeed many towns now ten and twenty times as populous. Yet only by remembering that can the size of the church be understood."

St John the Baptist, Thaxted Church - This stained glass window, in the centre of the S window in the S transept, depicts Edmund Mortimer d.1381. This is believed to be the earliest piece of medieval glass in Thaxted. It used to be in the north transept, but was re-positioned after the great storm of 1763.
