that the whole W end of the church has, at some time, been removed. The belfry 
is mentioned in Pevsner's "The Buildings of England: Essex".

This view was made possible by a broken window. According to 
Andrew Barham's excellent book The Lost Parish Churches Of Essex, this church 
recently played host to a nesting barn owl, whose ferocity coupled with the 
stench of bird droppings discouraged all but the most intrepid visitors.

The glimpse through the E window shows a peculiar door at the 
end of the church. Quite what this door is doing, I am unsure, as the other side 
of it is a blank wall.
