Sacred to the memory of the REVD. THOMAS SHELFORD, B.D., rector of this parish, and formerly fellow and tutor of Corpus Christi College in the University of Cambridge.He possessed high moral and intellectual attainments, and lived in the exercide of every Christian virtue. He was a diligent labourer in the vineyard of the Lord, and unwearied in his efforts both for the temporal and eternal welfare of the flock committed to his care, leading them to the cross of Christ, whom he preached and in whom alone he trusted.He was born at Thetford, Norfolk, March 11th 1792 and died at Lambourne, much and deservedly lamented, September 14th 1846.The memory of the Just is blessed.This memorial of departed worth is placed as a tribute of affectionate and grateful remembrance by his sorrowing widow, ELIZA JANE SHELFORD.
